Meta ads that actually sell: offer, creative, audience

There's a lot of jargon around Facebook and Instagram ads. Underneath it, a good ad is the same thing it's always been: the right offer, shown to the right people, in a way that makes them stop and pay attention. Get those three right and the rest is details.

1. Start with the offer

"Check out our store" is not an offer. A new product, a seasonal bundle, free local delivery, a first-order discount or a limited run is. Before you spend a dollar, finish this sentence: "Buy now because..." If you can't, the ad won't either.

2. Make creative that stops the scroll

People scroll fast. Real photos of your product in use, short videos, a bold headline and your actual face or shop tend to beat polished stock imagery. Show the thing, show why it's good and put the price or offer where people can see it.

3. Show it to the right people

Start with who already buys from you: where they live, how old they are, what else they're into. For local businesses, a tight radius around your shop often beats a big fancy audience. For online stores, people who already visited your site are your warmest leads.

4. Test small, then back the winners

Run two or three versions with different images or headlines on a modest budget. After a week or two, move the money to whatever is selling and drop the rest. Repeat. It's not glamorous, but it works.

5. Keep the basics in place

Install the Meta pixel (Shopify's Facebook & Instagram app handles it) so Meta can find more people like your buyers. You don't need a 30-tab dashboard. You need to know what sold and what didn't.

That's how I run Meta ads for small businesses. If you want help, send me a note.
